FN FAL

This wallpaper depicts the .308 caliber FN FAL battle rifle. Designed by FN-Herstal in Belgium between 1946 and 1951, it began production in 1953. The FAL is one of the most widely distributed rifles in the world, and has been used by over 50 different nations, including Germany, the UK, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Israel, and South Africa. I drew the rifle completely in Illustrator 9, taking 2 - 3 evenings to do so. The reference picture I used was actually a photo of a DSA SA58, which is a FAL clone. Due to this fact, some minor details (muzzle brake, sights, etc.) may differ slightly from the original FAL rifle. For those interested, DSA ([link]) are currently only one of two manufacturers in the world that produce brand-new metric-pattern FALs, in various configurations.

The rest of the wallpaper was made from scratch in Photoshop 7.

I really enjoyed creating a vector-art firearm, as it allowed me to really get familiar with the small details of this particular rifle. It is likely that I will draw more weapons in Illustrator and release more wallpapers of them in the future, so keep your eyes open if this kind of art appeals to you.
